Dear Parents and Carers,
I’d like to start with a huge THANK YOU to the Mother’s Day breakfast organisers and P & C exec for a really successful school event. Plenty of motherly representatives in the morning and a good vibe having people back to the school site. With our gates open we are excited to see more families coming to school events. Recently the K-2 Eco Warrior assembly and Stage assemblies on the way… More congratulations go to Laura Chilton (DSM), Kate Michaels, the SCPS choir and student leaders recognised in Parliament by Dr Marjorie O’Neill for their outstanding commemorative assembly. You can see the full message on the SCPS Facebook page.
So much happening at the school this term with teachers and learners ‘head down’ in learning as well as lunchtime activities have begun or about to start (Intermediate and senior dance, debating, junior choir, coding club, SRC). NAPLAN is almost complete; PSSA sport starts in Week 5. Congratulations and good luck to all the children trialling for Zone teams.
We have also started looking very closely at enrolments for 2023. We are looking at building our enrolment capacity with an ‘Open day’ for all; date and organisation TBA. As you know our community is quite transient and there are a number of family groups we need to consider as part of this complex process. So an open day to showcase will be a really good opportunity to see inside the gates for prospective new families. We will still hold our regular Kindergarten Orientation and transition programs.
Update on grounds: As you can imagine maintaining an old school and building is challenging. At the moment we are getting a large number of works completed, the top of the iceberg really. I will continue to post ground pictures on the SCPS Facebook so please have a look.
NB: You will find more detail in my Principal’s report on the P & C webpage. As you know P & C meetings are a good opportunity to find out firsthand what is happening at the school.
Lastly, I have recently received a lovely email from Gabrielle Morrissey Hansen, CEO of the Kids Give Back initiative. Wonderful learners from our school Adelaide B, Mila M and Elsie G gave their time to undertake a range of activities that contributed to meet the needs of vulnerable people in our community. It is especially heart-warming to know these young members of our school community chose to spend some of their holiday time volunteering to help others in need.
A round of applause!
“These students are among over 500 young people who produced over 7000 hot meals, salads, fruit kebabs, breakfast boxes, snack packs, care packs and decorated tote bags which were distributed to 13 charities around Sydney. They also were especially helpful in folding and packing new clothes for over 8000 vulnerable people, many of whom were affected by this year’s floods. We deeply appreciate their service to others and the kindness they have extended.”
Sincerely
Trish
